CPK partners with Areas to debut Philadelphia International Airport outlet
California Pizza Kitchen opened a new location at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Terminal E May 9. The new California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) airport location is next to Gate E12. CPK is known for its diverse menu of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, craft cocktails and breakfast offerings. With a full bar and dining room, the PHL CPK offers travelers a new sit-down dining choice. This CPK outlet also offers a to-go counter for coffee and takeout items, including breakfast.
Through a partnership with travel foodservice partner and caterer, Areas, the PHL CPK became a reality. It’s the second unit CPK has developed through its work with Areas and CPK’s 12th airport unit overall. “We are thrilled to grow our partnership with such an exceptional brand as California Pizza Kitchen… at PHL,” said Sergio Rodriguez, chief executive of Areas in the United States.

The PHL CPK offers a condensed, but inventive menu, offering CPK’s Original BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad, made with black beans, sweet corn, jicama, fresh cilantro & basil, crispy corn tortilla strips, and Monterey Jack. CPK then tops the salad with BBQ chicken, housemade herb ranch tomatoes and scallions. As an all-daypart restaurant, the restaurant at PHL offers the CPK Classic Breakfast Sandwich and Beverly Hills Breakfast Sandwich, prepared with cage-free eggs.
PHL CPK balances menu variety, relaxed setting, portability
Also, the travel outlet offers Original BBQ Chicken Pizza, Thai Chicken Pizza, and a new item exclusive to PHL airport, the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. The Philly Cheesesteak Pizza combines marinated grilled steak with caramelized onions, cremini mushrooms, shaved poblano peppers, Monterey Jack & American cheese, topped with tangy pepperoncini, on a crispy crust.
And with a full-service bar and prominent corner location at the airport, CPK has a good chance of appealing to passersby in Terminal E. Also, with its placement, the restaurant can generate stronger revenue volumes. The bar offers a selection of craft cocktails and beverages, said CPK in a news release:
- Ultimate Bloody Mary combines Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, horseradish and tomato juice with a fennel salt rim and tops it with spicy pepperoni, Mozzarella, olive, fresh lemon and thyme.
- Blueberry Ginger Smash mixes Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey with Domaine de Canton Ginger, muddled blueberries, lime and cranberry.
- Orchard Sangria blends white wine, St. Germain Elderflower, Monin Stone Fruit, and orange & cranberry juice.
- Red-Berry Sangria features red wine, Cognac, Monin Blackberry, raspberry purée, cranberry juice, and lemonade.
MarketPlace PHL is the retail developer and operator of food and retail at the Philadelphia Airport. It fashioned the lease and license at the Philadelphia Airport to open the PHL CPK unit.
