Burger King hits Asia-Pacific milestone with Shanghai Huatai Center opening

Shanghai restaurant is Burger King’s 3,000th in region

Burger King partnered with TFI TAB Food Investments and Cartesian Capital to open its 3,000th Asia-Pacific restaurant. The Shanghai Huatai Center Burger King opening marks the milestone thanks to the joint venture. The QSR has planned aggressive expansion in the region, noted Sam Siddiqui, Burger King Asia-Pacific president. Burger King has operated for forty years in the Asia-Pacific region, and has also doubled unit count in just the last five years.

“We are excited about what this new store represents for our brand and are pleased to offer our guests in Shanghai another convenient location to enjoy the Burger King iconic flame-grilled taste,” said Siddiqui. He also noted that Burger King Asia Pacific is the brand’s fastest-growing region.

Restaurant Brands International (RBI) operates and franchises Burger King worldwide. For the last five years, the RBI chain has opened more than 1,500 restaurants. The September 28 opening of the Huatai Center Burger King demonstrates how Burger King’s Asia-Pacific team taps high-growth markets. These include China, India, South Korea, and Indonesia.

Moreover, the Asia Pacific region represents nearly 20 percent of the restaurants in the Burger King system. RBI also operates and franchises the Tim Hortons and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen chains.
