Jollibee Food Corporation penetration into U.S. continues
Jollibee plans to open its first restaurant in Arizona before the end of year. The store in Chandler, Arizona will mark the chains’ 40th U.S. location and offer the Jollibee fried Chickenjoy in the state. The foray of parent Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) into the United States and Canada has become of keen interest to restaurant analysts and franchisors. The hyper-competitive QSR chicken category will face new competition when the chain expands to about 150 stores by 2023. The Chandler Jollibee will open at 2800 East Germann Road December 28.
After California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington, and Virginia, Philippines-based Jollibee’s presence in Arizona makes it the 11th state that chain has penetrated. Chandler’s appeal partly lies in its concentration of Filipinos living there. “Arizona is a priority market for Jollibee as the brand looks to provide overseas Filipinos with a ‘taste of home,” said the announcement.
The Chandler Jollibee is expected to have long grand opening lines when it holds its official celebration in January. The store will offer collectable items and giveaways. Prior to the grand opening, Chandler residents and visitors will also have a chance to experience Jollibee during its soft opening. The hand-breaded Chickenjoy is described by the chain as “crispylicious on the outside and juicylicious on the inside.”
“Great taste knows no barriers so whether you’re a devoted fan or an adventurous newcomer,” said Maribeth Dela Cruz, JFC North America president, Philippine Brands Group. “We invite everyone to come to the store on opening day to see for themselves why our Chickenjoy is world-famous,”
Jollibee operates another nine stores in Canada. In total, Chandler will mark the 49th restaurant opening in North America. Also, Jollibee is a top-ranking restaurant chain, according to food consultancy’s Technomic’s reporting.
In addition to the Jollibee expansion and the chain’s popular Chickenjoy, JFC is making inroads in other categories and segments within the restaurant industry. It entered into a venture agreement with Rick Bayless to develop a fast-casual Mexican concept in the United States. JFC also brokered a deal to develop Panda Express in the Philippines through a joint venture agreement.
The restaurant company operates its own restaurant chains, including Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal, Yonghe King, Hong Zhuang Yuan, and Smashburger. Additionally, it holds license as a franchisee in select markets for Burger King, Dunkin’ Donuts, as well as investment in SuperFoods Group that owns the Highland Coffee and PHO24 brands. Furthermore, JFC operates a total of 5,800 stores globally across 35 countries.
