Chipotle launches Queso Blanco nationwide at U.S., Canada locations

Queso Blanco becomes third menu item to pass stage gate

Chipotle is turning up the Queso on its menu, expanding the coveted menu item to all restaurants in the United States and Canada. The Queso Blanco recipe contains 13 ingredients, including aged Monterey Jack, white cheddar, in addition to serrano, poblano and chipotle peppers. Queso is the latest item to pass Chipotle’s menu innovation system for testing, learning and listening to customer feedback.

Chipotle calls this a stage-gate process, which allows for thorough testing of new menu items before a national launch is considered. Chipotle Queso tested at 52 U.S. locations during the stage-gate process. “Our culinary team perfected a recipe of real, responsibly sourced ingredients, helping to advance our mission of Cultivating a Better World,” said Chris Brandt, Chipotle chief marketing officer.

According to Brandt, the feedback prompted the expansion of Queso Blanco across the Chipotle system. Queso becomes the third menu item to pass the stage-gate process and follows Carne Asada and Chipotle Lifestyle Bowls.
