Free delivery offer extended during March
Chipotle Mexican Grill introduced a new free delivery offer during the month of March. The Newport Beach, Calif.-based fast-casual chain will offer delivery from March 15 to March 31. Chipotle uses the Delivery Kitchen to speed orders out the door and uses a dedicated ingredient line and team for these orders. In addition, customers will receive their orders in packaging with a tamper-evident seal for safety awareness.
Using Chipotle.com or the Chipotle app, customers can access the offer when ordering $10 or more during this time period. The Chipotle Delivery Kitchen also powers order-ahead takeout and the concept’s Chipotlanes, which are used by guests using mobile order-ahead for pick-up at select drive-thru locations.
What’s more, customers can track the status and location of orders through the Chipotle Delivery Tracker. Those who wish to limit direct contact wtih drivers can provide special delivery instructions in the app. The offer applies to orders with a $10 minimum and a $200 maximum.
Restaurant chains have become increasingly aware of customers’ concerns about safety, sanitation and exposure to others during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also becoming aware of recent data, including that of Black Box Inteligence, an analytics firm, suggesting that full-service restaurant oders are moving to the QSR category.
Initially, dine-in sales may also be shifting to delivery and takeout. A Black Box review of restaurant data from Seattle, a major market impacted by COVID-19, suggests a 10.5 percent increase in average to-go orders in the city.
“Chipotle is the first brand to scale this concept nationally with over 2,500 restaurants featuring the unique set-up for digital orders, and our March Free Delivery offer is the perfect opportunity to experience the Delivery Kitchen,” said Chris Brandt, Chipotle chief marketing officer.
Chipotle announced that the offer is not valid on catering or Burritos by the Box orders and only within the delivery service areas at participating U.S. locations.
