Upscale, decadent treats should help lift summertime sales
Tim Hortons Dream Donuts, a new, premium treats lineup utilizing the Oreo Cookie platform, arrived at the QSR chain’s U.S. stores. An Oreo Cookie Dream Donut comes in cookies & cream style with Oreo cookie pieces and a vanilla-fluff icing swirl on white fondant, which is then topped with an Oreo cookie half. A Chocolate Truffle Dream Donut features a chocolate donut cut in half and filled with whipped chocolate, then topped with a chocolate ganache and mini chocolate chips.
Tim Hortons also added an Oreo Cookie Dream Donut in cookies & cream style, showcasing Oreo cookie pieces and a vanilla fluff icing swirl on white fondant, topped with an Oreo cookie half. A Strawberry Confetti Dream Donut features strawberry fondant and comes topped with a pink icing swirl and brightly colored confetti sprinkles.
Summer promotions and continued menu innovation should provide Tim Hortons, which is part of Restaurant Brands International, a lift. The 4,800-unit QSR coffee chain has struggled to grow sales in the recent past, while its sister brands have held their own or flourished. In its second quarter, Tim Hortons posted a comp decrease of 10.3 percent, which includes the impact of COVID-19. Meanwhile, Burger King and Popeyes fared better, posting a 3.7 percent decrease and 26.2 percent increase, respectively.
A new, Iced Cold Brew and Vanilla Cream Cold Brew also debuted. For the Tim Hortons Cold Brew, Arabica beans are slow-steeped for 16 hours. Incorporating a touch of vanilla, the new Tim Hortons Vanilla Cream Cold Brew is the coffee chain’s creamy version of the drink. Available for a limited time, Dream Donuts retail for $1.99 and Cold Brew beverages start at $2.39.
“Tim Hortons has been bringing guests the classic donuts they love for generations, but our guests are also actively seeking premium donuts with specialty ingredients,” says Ricardo Azevedo, regional president, Tim Hortons U.S., “Our new Dream Donuts meet that next level of donut deliciousness, particularly with a cookie favorite like Oreo.”
