Vegan option builds on meat-alternative item’s success
El Pollo Loco launched a new Vegan Chickenless Pollo recipe in taco and burrito options after receiving feedback from its customers. The new formulation recreated the adobo sauce with a proprietary, non-GMO soy protein base and removed the egg enzymes. To keep the Chickenless Pollo meat-alternative vegan on the burrito, the QSR chicken chain removes the cheese as well as the Creamy Cilantro Dressing upon request.
As part of what it described as a commitment to diversifying the menu, El Pollo Loco is expanding plant-based options. The American Vegetarian Association (AVA) has certified the reformulated Vegan recipe, shining an additional spotlight on the reformulated recipe.
“Evolving our customer favorite Chickenless Pollo innovation takes us another step further in the plant-based space and continues our commitment to championing making healthier eating more accessible and affordable,” said Bernard Acoca, El Pollo Loco president and chief executive.
Customers can now opt to “make it vegan” at all 485 El Pollo Loco restaurants.
