P.F. Chang’s expands To Go concept in New York’s Theater District

Three more New York To Go restaurants slated to open soon

P.F. Chang’s unveiled a new To Go restaurant in the Theater District in New York City today. The polished casual-dining chain aims to open another three P.F Chang’s To Go restaurants in the coming weeks In New York as the health crisis has accelerated the demand for takeout. Last quarter, foodservice consultancy Technomic found that consumers had used pickup, curbside pickup and third-party delivery as the top methods of patronizing restaurants next to drive-thru.

The Theater District P.F. Chang’s To Go spans 1,700 square feet and presents a condensed footprint—smaller than what customers have experienced in the more traditional iteration. However, fans will see familiar P.F. Chang’s elements: bold murals and its iconic warrior horse. The menu incorporates favorites, including Chang’s Lettuce Wraps, Mongolian Beef, Dynamite Shrimp, and Chang’s Spicy Chicken, while the concept is specifically designed for online ordering, pickup, catering, and delivery.

The To Go concept is ideal for growth in “high-density metropolitan communities that don’t always offer space conducive to a full-scale restaurant,” announced the company. P.F. Chang’s To Go is part of the Asian-style restaurant chain’s 2020 business strategy that emphasizes off-premises dining, said Damola Adamolekun, chief executive of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based P.F. Chang’s. The Theater District opening follows the debut of the concept in Chicago earlier this year.

Restaurants consider to-go, order-ahead and delivery-only restaurants a viable way to expand in new markets with less capital, and often, at a lower real estate investment outlay. As part of the To Go concept expansion, P.F. Chang’s plans upcoming openings in the New York area: Seaport District, Midtown East and Murry Hill. Another 12 To Go locations will debut in the markets of Long Island, Florida, Colorado, and Texas.

“Asian has always been a go-to take out cuisine and off premise dining is a model where P.F. Chang’s shows its strength, which has allowed us to continue to meet consumer demand for elevated Asian cuisine in an easily-accessible way,’ added Adamolekun. “To Go provides a platform for us to strengthen and grow that offering―with a continued emphasis on operational and culinary excellence.”

In New York, P.F. Chang’s will add 200 jobs with the market expansion, noted Adamolekun. The Theater District To-Go restaurant operates Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
