Pizza Hut Detroit-Style embraces indulgent pizza trend

As Detroit pizza trend has risen over past year, Pizza Hut places bet on its ongoing popularity

Pizza Hut rolled out its Detroit-Style pizza at locations nationwide. The rectangular-shaped pizza has cheese prepared to the edges, and loaded with toppings and tomato sauce. Pizza Hut offers four different styles of Detroit-Style pizza; Double Cheesy, Meaty Deluxe, Detroit Double Pepperoni, and Supremo.

The Detroit Double Pepperoni Pizza features 32 slices of regular pepperoni with an additional 48 slices of the chain’s Crispy Cupped Pepperoni. According to an announcement, Pizza Hut selected its Cupped Pepperoni because they “crisp up in the oven” to provide crunchiness, while maintaining a zesty profile.

Detroit-style pizza has been a hot trend, rising fast since early 2020, when Restaurant C-Suite Magazine, Eatery Pulse News’s sister magazine, covered it. The launch of Pizza Hut’s Detroit version is timely, now that the trend approaches maturity and consumers cling to comfort foods as they hunker down for winter.

The Double Cheesy features two cheeses, headlined by aged Parmesan. Bacon, Italian sausage and Crispy Cupped Pepperoni pile on the Meaty Deluxe choice. And the Supremo enjoys a trio of main ingredients: Italian sausage, red onions and green bell peppers.

“Countless hours were spent testing and perfecting every detail here to create our take on Detroit-Style pizza,” said David Graves, chief brand officer for Pizza Hut. “The caramelized cheese crust and the sauce on top take the taste of this pizza to the next level.”
