Quesalupa returns to Taco Bell same day Chipotle’s Hand-Crafted Quesadilla debuts

General-access sales begin March 11 at both quick-serve chains

A more-cheesy Quesalupa is back at Taco Bell with early access to Rewards Beta members. The menu development team worked to enhance the flavor profile and add 50% more cheese to the decadent, double-layered shell.

Irvine, Calif.-based Taco Bell stuffs the crispy chalupa shell with a signature blend of melted pepper jack and mozzarella cheeses throughout. Then it packs the Quesalupa with seasoned beef, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and reduced fat sour cream.

Following a 36-unit test in Toledo, Ohio in 2016, the Quesadilla-Chalupa combination came to fruition. As the recipe was tweaked, Taco Bell returned the Quesalupa to test in Knoxville, Tenn. last September.


On March 10, 2021, Taco Bell Rewards Beta Members will score the Quesalupa one day before general public access. The QSR chain will fulfill early-access orders submitted on the Taco Bell mobile app for pickup in-store or via the drive-thru.

Surely not coincidentally, the Quesalupa will become accessible to the general public the same day Chipotle had already announced debuting its Hand-Crafted Quesadilla: March 11. Participating Taco Bell locations will offer the Quesalupa for $2.99, or as a combo meal, served with two Crunchy Tacos and a large fountain drink, for $6.99.

A new campaign to promote the Quesalupa, launched with creative agency Deutsch LA, includes a 30-second and two 15-second clips and various digital & social elements. The segments adopt elements of the time warp TikTok trend to “show just how cheesy the Quesalupa really is,” according to a Taco Bell announcement.
