Halal Guys expands presence in Midwest with Ohio franchise deal

Franchise agreement with Smart Choice Food LLC will add 7 units in Buckeye State

The Halal Guys struck a deal with Smart Choice Food LLC to open restaurants in Ohio for the first time. The franchise agreement calls for 7 new units, expanding its Midwest presence after it debuted in the region in Illinois.

The Halal Guys is a New York City quick-service chain, known for bringing American Halal Food to a larger audience—first, through its street carts, then via its eateries. Muslim cab drivers were a word-of-mouth catalyst, driving trial and engagement for the brand in the concept’s early days in the 90’s.

“This is a diverse city full of strong, resilient and welcoming people, and we wanted to be a part of that,” said franchisees Mohamed Alwah, Yara Fardous and Sam Saad.

Fransmart became the exclusive development partner of The Halal Guys to ignite growth for the brand. The Alexandia, Va.-based franchise development group also helped Five Guys Burgers & Fries and Qdoba Mexican Grill expand.
