Saladworks to expand in North America with 90-ghost-kitchen development deal
Agreement with Ghost Kitchen Brands to add some Walmart-based kitchens
Saladworks signed a new development agreement with Ghost Kitchen Brands to expand by 60 non-traditional US locations by the end of 2021. The deal also makes way for 30 new units in Canada. All stores will fulfill both delivery and carryout.
Walmart, new market expansion
As part of the ghost kitchen expansion, Saladworks will set up several new kitchens in Walrmart stores, offering some seating to guests.
For the first time, Saladworks will enter South Carolina, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Washington. In Canada, the WOWorks subsidiary salad chain will debut in Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta.
“We are excited to include Saladworks’ range of healthy and flavorful options to our customers allowing customizations and combinations with other brands, all in the convenience of one order,” said George Kottas, founder and chief executive of Ghost Kitchen Brands.
Parent WOWorks on the move
The incremental 90 ghost-kitchen locations will nearly double Saladworks’ 130-unit footprint in North America. In addition, WOWorks also plans significant expansion of Saladworks’ sister fast-casual brands, Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh, Frutta Bowls and The Simple Greek.
Eric Lavinder, WOWorks chief development officer, added, “Ghost kitchens have already proven to be an economical and highly successful expansion tactic for us, and this new deal with Ghost Kitchen Brands will allow us to continue solidifying Saladworks as the leading fast-casual salad brand.”
West Conshohocken, Pa.-based Saladworks added 40 new units in 2020.
