Drive-up option offers safety, convenience, speed, says pizza chain
Pizza Hut has debuted The Hut Lane, a new order-ahead drive-up option. The Yum Brands pizza concept has activated 1,500 locations nationwide with these digital pickup windows. Franchise partner Flynn Restaurant Group, which purchased 900 restaurants recently, has committed to outfitting many of the locations with a Hut Lane, which are similar to drive-thrus, but for order-ahead only.
As part of a strategy to provide more convenience and allow customers to stay in their vehicles, the digital-first program will supplement Pizza Hut’s curbside pickup option. Customers can access The Hut Lane drive-up service through the Pizza Hut app and at pizzahut.com. Guests can also place a Hut Lane order by phone.
“We are giving our customers a variety of options to optimize their pizza-eating experience as we build on our business momentum,” said Nicolas Burquier, chief customer & operations officer at Pizza Hut.
The digital pickup window expands contactless options at the Plano, Texas-based pizza chain. At locations not offering The Hut Lane, the digital ordering system will redirect customers to curbside pickup.
Added Ron Bellamy, Flynn Restaurant Group chief improvement officer, “We know from our QSR experience how much value a pickup window can unlock for the business, and we plan to prioritize The Hut Lane in future builds and relocations of existing stores.”
Pizza Hut executives expect this option will be embraced by franchisees looking to improve access and speed in customer ordering. Likewise, potential new customers still navigating the pandemic and recovery should see great appeal in the speed, convenience and safety of order-ahead drive-up service.
