Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers unveils new dining-room-less restaurant prototype

Following guest trends, QSR plans restaurant designed for a to-go world

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers unveiled a new restaurant prototype as it seeks to accelerate its expansion. The quick-service chain broke ground in Salinas, Kansas with a new prototype that provides distinct advantages for an off-premises future, sans inside seating. To speed to go orders, the new store, includes a double drive-thru and walk-up ordering station.

Executives are bullish on the Freddy’s Frozen Custard future as the development pipeline now tallies 45 units opening this year. The Salinas restaurant will likely open in late August with construction taking place throughout the summer. Designs on the prototype concept started after the burger chain conducted a study on customer behavior and drive-thru operations.

Chris Dull, chief executive of Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, said, “This prototype is the latest in a variety of available options and will cater to the growing number of our on-the-go guests who are mobile-minded and benefit from the ease and convenience of this prototype’s features. This new restaurant design option will fit seamlessly with our existing drive-thru and mobile ordering capabilities.”

Development plans will lead to Freddy’s Frozen Custard having a presence in 33 states by July. In the coming months, stores in El Paso, Texas; Durango, Colorado; Florence, South Carolina; Streetsboro, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky; Newton, Kansas, and Linden, New Jersey—the first Freddy’s in the state—will open.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard targets near-term unit development on Northeast, Upper Midwest, California, Florida, Oregon, and Washington, and large metropolitan markets, like Pittsburgh.
