Fish-Free Filet, Plant-Based Breaded Crab-Free Cake arrive at select locations in California + Georgia
Long John Silver’s and Gathered Foods have teamed up to introduce a Plant-Based Breaded Fish-Free Fillet and Plant-Based Breaded Crab-Free Cake. The new items from Gathered Foods’ Good Catch branded line will be available in five locations in California and Georgia beginning Jul 19, 2021.
The partnership brings Gathered Foods’ six-legume blend of peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans, and navy beans to customers in a seafood quick-service setting. This innovative base is packed with protein, says the company, and helps create the “texture that mimics the flakiness of seafood.”
At Long John Silver’s, customers can choose from a Plant-Based Platter, featuring two Fish-Free Fillets, two Crab-Free Cakes, and two sides, two plant-based meal substitute options featuring Fish-Free Fillets or Crab-Free Cakes, each served with two sides; or Fish-Free Fillets and Crab-Free Cakes as a la carte add-ons to any meal.
The following locations will carry the Fish-Free menu items:
- 52 Bullsboro Drive, Newman, GA
- 1805 North Slappey Drive, Albany, GA
- 801 Ming Avenue, Bakersfield , CA
- 7228 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, CA
- 406 West Shaw Avenue, Clovis, CA
Offering products from Austin, Texas-based Gathered Foods addresses the needs of Long John Silver’s flexitarian customers. The introduction of Plant-Based Breaded Fish-Free Fillet and Plant-Based Breaded Crab-Free Cake by Long John Silver’s follows the launch of the grilled menu lineup in 2019. Grilled menu additions featured Grilled Shrimp and Salmon Meals, Tacos and Rice Bowls.
Gathered Foods has seen momentum in expanding its business and product line. It completed a successful B-2 bridge funding round, securing $26.3 million with investments from Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) and others. The company’s Good Catch deli-style plant-based tuna salad is now available across several states in Whole Foods Market prepared foods sections. Also, in February, Gathered Foods partnered with Bareburger to bring its Plant-Based Classic Fish Burger to consumers through a vegan menu offering called The Gulf.
