Wetzel’s Pretzels names Kim Freer chief marketing officer
Former Blaze Pizza executive takes CMO role
Wetzel’s Pretzels named Kim Freer chief marketing officer. The 300-unit chain has charged Freer with supporting the franchise’s ongoing expansion, menu innovation, ease of ordering, and growing the digital platform. Freer comes to Wetzel’s Pretzel’s with substantive marketing expertise, working for both Subway Restaurants and Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza.
Previously, she helped manage marketing for Subway Restaurants. At Blaze Pizza, she supported its growth during an explosive escalation of units, from 26 to 345. Most recently, she served as chief marketing officer for Yoshinoya Japanese Kitchen. There, she implemented an off-premises sales engine and the chain’s first mobile app and loyalty program.
“As a former Chief Marketing Officer at Wetzel’s Pretzels, this role has a special place in my heart, and I know that we can expect big things from Kim,” said Jennifer Schuler, chief executive of Wetzel’s Pretzels. “Not only is Kim joining Wetzel’s during a time of great growth, but we’re excited to tap her experience and continue to bring pretzels to the people in inventive new ways.”
The hiring of Freer comes at a pivotal time for Wetzel’s Pretzel’s as it pursues an omnichannel strategy, expanding to tourist areas, convenience stores, Walmarts, transit destinations, and via food trucks, in addition to traditional mall locations.
