CKE promotes John Dunion to COO, Brian Cassidy to SVP, Carl’s Jr. Operations

Todd Huetnick promoted to SVP, supply chain

The parent of Carl’s Jr. and Hardees’ promoted John Dunion to chief operating officer and Brian Cassidy to senior vice president, Carl’s Jr. Operations. As part of CKE’s realignment of the operating structure, Dunion will oversee both supply chain and operations. CKE also promoted Todd Huetinck to senior vice president, supply chain.

“John is an excellent leader with a penchant for team building and moxie for driving successful business outcomes,” said Ned Lyerly, CKE chief executive. “John knows our business inside and out, has an excellent rapport with our franchisees and will continue to elevate operational excellence throughout the CKE system.”

The Franklin, Tenn.-based restaurant company noted that the new structure should lead to an increased focus on “operations, accountability, ownership and execution” across the US business.

After joining the company in 1996, Dunion served as vice president of purchasing and two years later, held the role of senior vice president upon being promoted. Over the years, he has held several leadership roles, including chief administrative officer.

Most recently, Dunion served as chief supply chain officer.


In his new role as senior vice president – Carl’s Jr. Operations, Cassidy will lead both company and franchise operations for the Carl’s Jr. brand. He joined the company in 2017 and held the role of vice president of operations, becoming key to the success of the brand. Before joining CKE, Cassidy operated his own restaurant and led operations for top QSR chains. He earned a dual degree in Business and Culinary Arts from the International Culinary Academy.

As senior vice president of supply chain management, concentrating on food and packaging purchasing, Huetinck will also oversee distribution and quality assurance. His background is rooted in sourcing, food safety, supplier quality management, and continuous quality improvement. Huetinck began his career at CKE in 2006 as a senior food technologist and has held several leadership roles during his tenure.

He earned his MBA in Supply Chain Management from California State University at San Bernardino.
