Location transitions from food truck to full brick-and-mortar restaurant with Mortal & Pestle bar
Indian fast-casual chain Curry Up Now opened a new restaurant in San Ramon, Calif. The new unit at 6000 Bollinger Canyon Road in the City Center Bishop Ranch shopping center will include the brand’s Mortar & Pestle craft cocktail bar.
The Curry Up Now menu features fusion-Indian dishes, providing a twist on traditional Indian cuisine—from Tikka Masala Burritos to Deconstructed Samosas. There are also traditional plates, including Thali Platters, Kathi Rolls and Family Style Entrees.
By having a Mortar & Pestle, the San Ramon Curry Up Now offers an appealing adult beverage program, including 24 local brews on tap. Signature cocktails offered include the Mortar & Pestle, Escape from the Bay, Junkyar Heart, Ambika’s Grove, and several others. From a concept perspective, Curry Up Now is one of the few fast casual chains that also has a craft cocktail program in the restaurant, says the chain.
The San Ramon Curry Up Now’s opening in 2020 was delayed due to the pandemic. In the meantime, the fast-casual chain set up a food truck to serve theTri-Valley community in the City Center Bishop Ranch shopping center.
“We’ve put a lot of work into this store over the past year and are extremely excited to open our doors to the San Ramon community,” said Akash Kapoor, co-founder, chief executive and chief troublemaker for Curry Up Now. “We’ve incorporated a ton of unique and innovative elements to this location, like specific dishes only available on the San Ramon menu, table-side ordering and in-store robots that help deliver the food to your table.”
The Mortal & Pestle at City Center Bishop Ranch marks the Indian street-food chain’s fourth location.
Founded in 2009, Curry Up Now recently celebrated its 12th anniversary in September. The franchise started by Akash and Rana Kapoor, a husband-and-wife team, has grown their enterprise to include several food trucks, 19 restaurants and several digital kitchens.
