After more than three decades, first CPK domestic franchise program should accelerate unit growth
California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) launched a domestic franchise program for the first time in its history. This follows a successful run with its international licensing and franchising program. CPK says it has returned to 2019 financial performance levels, in addition to launching franchises in Canada and Hong Kong.
Founded in Beverly Hills, CPK offers a menu of creative pizzas, pastas and salads. These include the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza, the Thai Crunch Salad and Garlic Cream Fettuccine.
The new CPK domestic franchise program is headed by Giorgia Minardi, EVP, Global Development & Franchise Operations. A new pillar of growth for the 35-year old pizza chain, the US franchisee recruitment program will help meet CPK’s expansion targets.
In December 2020, the pizza-chain company emerged from bankruptcy, trading most of its pre-petition debt for equity.
“California Pizza Kitchen is a known leader in the global restaurant industry when it comes to innovative cuisine and friendly hospitality,” said Jim Hyatt, president and chief executive of California Pizza Kitchen. “With Giorgio at the helm of our extensive franchise expansion, we look forward to expanding our national and global footprint in 2022 and beyond.”
California Pizza Kitchen’s portfolio of restaurants now tallies 200 units, globally. Restaurants span several regions, including the United States, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Honduras, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, and The Caribbean.
