Former wide receiver to open up to five Krystal restaurants, expanding the QSR chain into the Northeast
Krystal Restaurants will expand to the Northeast for the first time through a franchise agreement with Victor Cruz, a New York Giants former wide receiver. The deal calls for up to five units in the New Jersey area by the end of 2023. These stores will be branded “Victor Cruz’s Krystal,” as part of the agreement.
The first unit will be built in the new prototype design that Krystal unveiled earlier this year. The first Victor Cruz’s Krystal restaurant will debut in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey.
“We are thrilled to be working with Victor Cruz; quite simply, he is a winner,” said Thomas Stager, chief executive of Krystal Restaurants. “Mr. Cruz is exactly the kind of partner we want to help us expand our brand into new communities and to introduce new audiences to Krystal.”
Krystal serves up mini-hamburgers served on square buns (Krystals). The quick-service chain has grown to 300 locations in 10 states.
Cruz will also launch a merchandise line with Atlanta-based Krystal. In addition, he will include memorabilia from his football career throughout Victor Cruz’s Krystal franchise stores.
As part of his seven-year career with the NFL as a wide receiver, he won a victory in Super Bowl XLVI. Since his time with the New York Giants, Cruz remains active in sports and entertainment. According to an announcement, his love for the brand and his wish to see Krystal served to guests in the Northeast catalyzed this opportunity.
“From the moment you try a Krystal, you know there’s nothing else like it,” Cruz said. “And once you eat it, you just crave it. They’ve done it for generations and I’m excited to partner with the Krystal team and make it a winning combination.”
