Opening marks first Torchy’s restaurant in state of Virginia
Torchy’s Tacos opened a new restaurant in Charlottesville, Va. December 15. The new location marks the first opening in Virginia. The Baja-style taco chain continues to expand on the East Coast. Founded in Austin, Texas in 2006, Torchy’s is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Guests at the Charlottesville Torchy’s Tacos will be able to order the chain’s signature tacos and Green Chile Queso for dine-in and takeout. The recently-opened restaurant is located at 1951 Swanson Drive.
“When I founded Torchy’s in a food trailer in Austin 15 years ago, I never imagined I’d one day be able to open a restaurant across the country in my home state of Virginia,” said Mike Rypka, founder and chief executive of Torchy’s Tacos. “Virginia is where I first fell in love with the culinary world, and the lessons I learned here helped inspire Torchy’s, so being able to bring our brand to the local community is beyond incredible.”
Also, the 4,000 square-foot restaurant will offer its full menu, headlined by the Crossroads taco, Green Chile Queso and the ever-rotating Taco of the Month.
Made to order menu items include the following:
- Damn Good Tacos: Torchy’s made-to-order tacos come on housemade corn or flour tortillas, such as the Green Chile Pork, featuring pork carnitas, green chiles and cotija cheese. There is also the Baja Shrimp, made with fried shrimp, cabbage slaw and pickled onions. The famous Trailer Park inspired by Torchy’s beginnings in an Austin food trailer, comes with fried chicken, green chiles, lettuce, pico de gallo and cheddar
- Breakfast Tacos: These all-day menu options include The Wrangler, prepared with cage-free eggs, smoked beef brisket, potato, cheese, and tomatillo sauce. Rising in popularity, the Migas come with cage-free eggs, corn tortilla strips, green chiles, avocado, pico de gallo, and cheese
- Torchy’s margaritas and cocktails offer a seasonal, monthly featured margarita and a selection of cocktails (Damn Good Drinks)
The Charlottesville Torchy’s Tacos will also offer inventive sides, which include the Green Chile Queso + Chips, Juan’s Refried Beans, Street Corn, and guacamole and salsa. The margaritas and local brews add to the Torchy’s experience for many customers. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for dine-in. Drink specials are on tap: $1.50 off draft and bottled beer, and $2 off its Damn Good Drinks.
The portfolio of 95 locations in 11 states will continue to grow as the fast casual readies penetration of Arizona and Florida in 2022.
