Velvet Taco names Lee Evans chief financial officer

After three years with taco chain, Robb Cherne promoted to regional vice president

Velvet Taco appointed Lee Evans to the newly-established role of chief financial officer. As the fast casual has continued to grow its presence in the United States, Velvet Taco also beefed up its operational ranks. As a result, the hip, funky taco chain promoted Robb Cherne to regional vice president, another newly-created position.

Clay Dover, chief executive of Velvet Taco, said he is “delighted to welcome Lee to the executive team and is confident she is the CFO to guide Velvet Taco’s expansion plan for traditional and non-traditional locations.”

He added, “She is an extremely talented individual whose skills will complement an already strong executive team.”

The new position oversees financial reporting, planning and analysis, tax, and audit. Evans will also manage the company’s relationships with fiduciary institutions and investors.

“I chose to join Velvet Taco because I truly believe in where the brand is going in addition to Clay’s leadership and vision,” said Evans. “Velvet Taco’s commitment to quality food and hospitality and the passionate brand ethos is one that has legs, that’s for sure. I’m thrilled to be part of this team and guide the team through the next phase of growth and beyond.”

In addition, Cherne, having worked for Velvet Taco for three years, will oversee operations at Velvet Taco’s 32 locations. Plus, he will be charged with responsibility for new locations opening in 2022.

Dover commented, “The foundation of any great restaurant is having solid operating processes. Robb has a proven history of doing just this, and we know his leadership will guide our brand and operations team as we continue to expand.

Meanwhile, there is a new rank of director of operations at Velvet Taco. Three general managers recently received promotions to directors of operations. Moving forward, these individuals will be responsible for overseeing daily operations for several restaurants in specific markets.

Additionally, in January and February, Velvet Taco opened restaurants in Nashville, Tenn. and Woodlands, Texas respectively. The taco chain also opened a unit in Oklahoma in Tulsa’s Cherry Street District. The area is full of local eateries and art galleries, making it a social destination.
