Order-ahead drive-thru lane captures essence of fast casual’s healthy-food positioning
Sweetgreen is opening a first sweetlane, its own version of order-ahead drive-thru, in Illinois. The anticipated opening in Schaumburg will take place in the next year. The sweetlane drive-thru will combine with a “best-in-class in-store experience,” according to the fast-casual chain.
The sweetlane will continue to advance the healthy-food chain’s advancement of its digital platform. In 2021, Sweetgreen generated nearly half its revenue through digital orders. Customers are increasingly ordering through the fast casual’s mobile app and online.
At the Schaumburg sweetlane at 1320 North Meacham Road, customers will place orders in advance. Guests will drive past a round observation window to appreciate Sweetgreen’s fresh preparation of healthy food orders. In a way, the observation window brings the in-store experience to drive-thru customers, according to an announcement.
“We are always innovating to provide more convenience for our customers, which is why we’re excited about our first sweetlane concept in Schaumburg,” said Nicolas Jammet, Sweetgreen co-founder and chief concept officer. “Digital customers are our most habitual users and we believe this new format will provide us with more options to connect people to real food.”
