KFC US names Tarun Lal president

25-year-veteran to replace Kevin Hochman

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) named Tarun Lal president of its US division. The appointment becomes effective July 15, 2022. Lal will exit his current role of managing director of the KFC Middle East, Pakistan, Turkey, Africa, and India markets.

Lal replaces Kevin Hochman, who left KFC US to take the CEO post at Brinker International.

Reporting to Dyke Shipp, KFC division president, Lal will take on the KFC US president’s role after relocating to the brand’s Louisville-Ky.-based US headquarters. As a 25-year veteran, his work has included several high-profile roles within the organization. These included general manager (GM) of KFC Africa, KFC Global chief operations officer and GM for KFC India.

Across his tenure at KFC, Lal’s expertise and leadership have proven valuable. As managing director of the KFC Middle East, PTAI markets, his impact was significant across KFC’s strategic initiatives. As GM of KFC Africa, Lal added “tremendous value,” according to a statement, to the KFC Sub-Saharan Africa business. Under his direction, the KFC Africa group was able to ignite growth, including launching the brand in several new markets.

“Tarun has proven to be a best-in-class operator with a strong commercial outlook and approach,” said Shipp. “As he joins the US brand, we are confident he will be met with a similar passion for consistent execution and achieving breakthrough results.”

As an active champion and advocate of female advancement, equity, inclusion and belonging, Lal worked to sponsor talent initiatives, including the Next-Generation of Women (N.O.W.) strategy at KFC. The initiative supports the organization’s commitment to reach gender parity in leadership roles by 2025.
