Sweetgreen opens in Indianapolis, Edina, Minnesota

Fashion Mall, Keystone, Edina Galleria Mall restaurants mark further Midwest market penetration by fast casual

Sweetgreen opened two new restaurants in the Midwest, one in Indianapolis, Indiana and the other in Edina, Minnesota. The September 13 unveilings continue to expand the fast-casual salad chain’s presence in the region. Executives have clearly focused on the territory over the past year.

In Indianapolis, Sweetgreen opened at The Fashion Mall at Keystone. The Minnesota store debuted at the Galleria Mall in Edina. As at other locations, its menu will rotate five times per year.

The company behind the healthy, veggie-forward concept, which went public last November, has built its brand by focusing on high-quality ingredients and using fresh, regional produce. The menu focuses on core salads, warm bowls and sides. In addition, these new locations will test the company’s kids menu, which includes Little Harvest and Ranchy Chicken + Rice. The kids menu that was developed will ideally suit the preponderance of young families across both cities.

What’s more, restaurants in Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Indianapolis will feature a test menu of dinner-forward plates. These experimental dishes include the Chicken + Avocado + Ranch Plate and the Miso Steelhead Plate.

“Today we open in two new states in the Midwest, helping us to further our goal of connecting more people around the country to healthy, fresh and convenient food options,” said Nicolas Jammet, co-founder and chief concept officer at Sweetgreen. “Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Indianapolis are both communities with booming culinary scenes, and as both states have deep roots in agriculture, it made entering these markets feel like a natural progression in growing sweetgreens’ Midwest presence.”

The stores will make an impact in their communities. For every meal sold on September 13 in Edina, Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen will donate a meal to Second Harvest Heartland, an organization whose mission is to end hunger together, serving Minnesota and western Wisconsin. For every meal sold on the same day in Indianapolis, Sweetgreen will donate a meal to Second Helpings, an organization that delivers more than one million meals to Central Indiana each year, helping those who experience food insecurity.
