Performance Food Group (PFG) agreed to purchase Reinhart Foodservice from Reyes Holdings, LLC for $2.0B. The acquisition of Reinhart is sure to change the broadline distributor landscape. Reinhart generates $6B in annual net sales and is the second largest privately-held foodservice distributor in the United States. With Reinhart, PFG expands its geographic territory in addition to enhancing distribution for PFG’s customer base in select markets.

According to a study by Technomic, Inc., a Chicago-based foodservice consultancy, Amazon was recognized as a leading source for online purchases from foodservice operators. The 2018 E-Sourcing Impact Study indicates that over 40 percent of foodservice operators indicated using e-sourcing at least once per month. E-sourcing will not become the primary source of purchases for operators, unless e-sourcing (3ES) can compete beyond price and offer some of the same conveniences and services that distributors provide. Foodservice distributors have been evolving in their use of technology, providing online ordering platforms and apps that mirror Amazon’s interface, notes Technomic.

US Foods reports Q2 2018 financial results, acquires SGA Food Group of Companies

US Foods reported its Q2 2018 financial results, while also announcing its acquisition of SGA’s Food Group of Companies in a deal worth of $1.8B. For the quarter, total case volume was down 0.9 percent and restaurant case volume from independent restaurants was up 3.8 percent. Net sales were relatively flat at $6.2B,down $1M from last year’s same period. Net income increased to $126M, up $61 million from the same period last year.
